The National Health Service is celebrating its
70th birthday this month with a raft of special events, programmes
and initiatives planned to mark the milestone birthday.
When the NHS opened its doors in 1948, there were 16,864 GPs working
for it; fast-forward to 2018 and there are now an incredible 41,817 GPs
providing medical care across the nation.
Over the course of 70 years, the NHS has grown and adapted to a
changing population. Ensuring it operates efficiently across all aspects of the
organisation is essential – and that includes how the individual NHS buildings
are managed too.

technology, which is found in more health sector buildings than that of any
The wellbeing of building occupiers – from hospital patients to
office workers - is also a key priority;
the healthcare sector – more than most – is required to provide a high quality
built environment and supporting infrastructure such as heating, ventilation
and hot water.
data the BEMS collects allows building and facilities managers to better
analyse, understand, reconfigure and improve a building’s internal environment
– thereby optimising comfort conditions, keeping people healthy and happy.
